"Selena Mars is one of the few artists operating today whose songs create a complete world of their own. Discover her now!" Phil Strongman Music Journalist & Author
Selena Mars is an international film composer and actress, living and working on both sides of the pond. SM's unique voice and out-of-the-box writing style caught the attention of several well known producers leading her to writing and recording sessions with Platinum award winners Talvin Singh (Madonna/Bjork), Andreo 'Fanatic' Heard (Michael Jackson), and Chiba Antoine (Amy Winehouse/Destiny's Child). She also collaborated with Chris Flam (Mos Def, Nick Cave) for Future Shock, a Rawkus Records compilation. Recently, SM had the opportunity to write and record songs with Johnny Cash's former band The Tennessee Three/Bob Wootton and producer Dave Clark whose credits include work with Florence+the Machine. She has appeared on both big and small screens, notably appearing alongside Willem Dafoe in Abel Ferrara's 4:44 Last Day on Earth.
Before beginning a career as a solo artist, SM toured the United States as a backing vocalist/dancer for artists on RCA and J Records, while pursuing an acting and modeling career-all by the age of 20. After signing with a talent agency in London, England SM booked several national commercials straight away, as well as walk-on and recurring roles on British TV, including the modern cult classics Footballer's Wives and Bad Girls.
It was also during this time that SM felt inspired by music once again and began writing what would become her first EP Empty. She recorded Empty in New York City at the same studio where Alice Smith recorded her first album, with the same producer- Alex Elena, who was nominated for a Grammy shortly thereafter. Josh Valleau aka DJ Industrial Average (John Legend's longtime pianist) was also instrumental in the making of Empty along with Imani Coppola. The single When I Walk Out, from Empty, is part of the soundtrack for the indie feature film Non Compos Mentis. SM appears in two scenes in the film.
Some recent places you can see and hear SM are in 4:44 Last Day on Earth, starring Willem Dafoe and I.D. Discovery's series Stalked: Someone's Watching. On European music channels, SM is behind the keyboard in French superstar Chimene Badi and Grammy winner Billy Paul's music video Ain't No Mountain High Enough which has over 145,000 YouTube views to date. SM is a familiar voice on SiriusXM as an announcer.
Selena's charities include Big Brothers/Big Sisters of America.
